Java Summer Schools
Like to get on top of Java during the break, ready for when your courses start in October? Summer schools cover undergraduate degree level programming, giving you a strong grasp of the fundamentals of Java and preparing you to enter or return to university in the academic year ahead. We bring Java to life with graphics and interaction, using fun and engaging material to see what makes programming interesting as well as understanding the practicalities.
Which course is right for you?
The fundamentals course starts from the beginning, looking at what Java is and going over the fundamental concepts. We'll look at variables, loops, methods, arrays and objects, taking the time to explain what each of these tools are, how they work and when you'd want to use them. If you'd like to be able to program but haven't got into it, this is the course for you.
If you've not used Java for a while and are a bit rusty, try a refresher course. Refreshers start from arrays and move on to higher level material, including collections, sorting, using several objects together and building GUIs. If you more or less understood your first year, passed your exams and would like to review what you've learned before moving ahead, this is your course.

Small groups
Courses run in small groups of no more than six, covering material at a level and pace that suits you. You'll have taught sessions and practical exercise classes, giving you time to test out and discuss the material as we work on it, ensuring you understand what we're doing before we move on. You'll also have some one to one tuition time, giving you time to go into depth on difficult material.
Practicalities
Courses run in London and Brighton as twice weekly sessions for six weeks, or if you'd like to work more quickly, take an intensive course of four sessions per week for three weeks. All courses are closed groups, with no new members joining once we've started. Summer school is a great chance to look at Java afresh, review the core ideas, renew your interest in the subject and get on top with the fundamentals.
